Welcome snowbirds back from the South and West. It’s good to have everyone back, enjoying the beautiful warmer seasons of Michigan. At the April meeting of the GMLSRC board of directors, I was privileged to present Deborah Horstik, Executive Director of the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum, a check for $500, designated for their building fund. The museum has been very gracious to the club over the years, allowing us to use their boardroom for at least two meetings each month, and for other favors granted. In other financial news, the board has moved a large portion of our monetary assets to a GMAC demand notes account that pays significantly more interest than we’ve been receiving over the years at Lansing Automakers Federal Credit Union. Treasurer John Bond manages our funds, making transfers between the two accounts in order to pay our bills, while maximizing earnings. Also, at the board meeting, we accepted two new members to the Audit Committee: Dale Bates and Dub Devers. Both have many years experience as auditors in the accounting departments of Olds and Fisher Body. We are very happy to have them on board. The Audit Committee is responsible to review the treasurer’s records and report their findings at the annual meeting, thereby insuring that your club’s funds are used properly per the bylaws, standard accounting practices, and regulatory requirements. Many thanks to the two guys that run the main summer club events: John Fox for the Tigers bus trip, and Larry Parker for the two golf socials. John pretty much handles the trip on his own, while Larry has a team of helpers for the days of the outings. Kudos to them also. These events have been very successful over the years, so come along and be a part of both. See the flyer in this Newsletter. Gene Method asked us to publicize a big golf event for Oldsmobile field and home office retirees, coming up in early autumn. See details elsewhere in this Newsletter. Charlene Crosby-Harris supplied information to me about a new monthly breakfast meeting that she has organized. I’ve added it to the list of the regular gatherings that can be found in this Newsletter. Remember to be a “street corner evangelist” for the club. There are a lot of GM Lansing retirees out there that for one reason or another have not joined us. We’ve have difficulty knowing about recent retirees, mainly because of GM’s confidentiality policy. Others have heard of us, but have chosen not to join. With an enthusiastic smile, tell them of all the benefits and fun we have together, all for a pretty reasonable ten bucks a year. You can’t even get three gallons of gas for that anymore! |
