My message will just be a brief
comment on the activities that your Board of Directors continues in
order to make the Club worthwhile to the membership. After two years as
Vice President and four years as President, this will be my final
opportunity to report to you through this medium. I hope that you will
give the new Club leadership your continued support going forward.
-
Membership - The Membership Committee under Fred
Kane continues to look for new ways to reach recent GM retirees with
information about the Club in hopes that they will find activities to
their liking.
-
Activities - Year to date our six regular
activities have been very successful and we look forward to the same
activities next year under our new leadership. Most recently,
the Summer Socials under the new leadership of Larry Parker enjoyed
one-half good weather and total good fellowship. The trip to the
Tiger's game coordinated by John Fox was fully subscribed and lost no
participants (the tigers won). The tour of the Delta Plant coordinated
with Randy Thayer's staff by Larry Lennon was enjoyed by a good number
of Club members and their guests. At this time, future tours will not
resume until 2008. Larry Koster's efforts in arranging the details for
the annual meeting luncheon are essentially complete. All in all, a
good event year.
-
Financial - After many years of faithful service as
Club Treasurer, Jack Cooper has decided to step down. He leaves the
Club in solid financial condition. The Board continues to work on
developing ideas to accommodate the increasing costs of doing our
regular business without increasing annual dues. A limited number of
copies of the financial report for the past two years will be
available at the annual business meeting.
-
Communications - With Don Sokoloski as Editor, our
newsletter continues to bring our members information on the Club’s
activities. Later this year we will be issuing the updated version of
the Club roster, which will be mailed with the December newsletter.
Fred Kane's efforts to maintain the Membership Roster provide a
valuable resource,, especially to our out-of-state members. The Club's
Web site at www.gmlsrc.org is
attracting improved traffic to this Club service. With the efforts of
Don Sokoloski and Dan Foltz providing continuing site improvements, we
expect the trend to continue.
With long serving club Secretary Shirley Sanborn and
former President John Powers looking over our shoulders next year, I am
sure that the club will provide a valuable service to our membership in
future years. |
