Dear Mr. Bond:
It was quite refreshing to read
your President’s Message, December 2003, especially
paragraph #4 with respect to health care concerns. I agree
with your statement that we retirees are no longer viewed as
"valued members of the G.M. Family," but seem to be looked
upon as a financial liability except when it come to
marketing their products.
In my opinion, one of the
reasons we salaried employees have gotten ourselves in this
position is because we kept turning our cheek every time we
were asked to take concessions. We were told, and most of us
believed, that G.M. would always look out for our
best interests. That was not the case. After all, look
at the union retiree’s programs, i.e., cost-of-living,
Christmas bonus, medical. It appears that General Motors
cares more for the union employees than it does for the
retired Salaried employees who administered their policies
It is time we band together
with all G.M. Retirees’ Clubs nationwide to make a unified
statement of our needs. If I can be of assistance please let
me know.
