GMLSRC President’s Message These past few months have been worrisome for retirees in general, and those of General Motors in particular. Most of us have followed the news closely, and now pretty much will have to “wait and see” what the inauguration of The New GM will bring. Plus, it won’t be long until we all have to make the annual insurance selections, both for us plus-65 Medicare folks, and those that haven’t yet reached that magic age. Life, and these decisions in particular, seem to get more complicated every year. For those of you that are computer-comfortable, don’t forget to log into the club website gmlsrc.org on a regular basis. Our Website Liaison board member, Don Sokoloski, has our Web Manager, Dan Foltz, post items and links that are of interest to members. In addition, our Membership Committee Chairman, Fred Kane, has Dan post a monthly update to the pages of new members, member information changes, and friends we’ve lost through death. Finally, there are convenient links to the three organizations that offer up-to-date information on GM retiree issues.
This brings up the continuing issue of members’ e-mail addresses that become out-of-date. Folks get new ones for a variety of reasons, but often forget the number of their correspondents that are impacted. Whenever we do a mass e-mailing, which has happened several times recently, Fred gets a long list of failed addresses. That’s why it’s important that you let us know when yours is changed. I know we all joke about our declining memories, so this is a reminder to go to the club website and check your address on the roster. If it’s incorrect, use the “FEEDBACK/ASKUS” link to submit the correct one, or send an e-mail to ClubFeedback@gmlsrc.org. This year’s two Summer Social golf outings were quite successful. A big THANK YOU to golf chairman Larry Parker and the others who help make these outings so much fun. For both events, there was excellent weather for golfing with old friends, a tasty lunch, prizes, and fun talk afterwards. However, the number of members participating in recent years has been declining. We sure have a lot of fun, but would like to see more of you there. Please let Larry (LParker437@aol.com) or me know if you have any ideas of how to raise the attendance for next year. Are there any issues that keep you from joining us – cost, location, day of the week, format, etc.? Keep the 2010 dates in mind and on your calendar: June 8 and July 20. I hope to see many of you at the Annual Business Meeting, Thursday, September 17, at the MSU Kellogg Center. The timing usually gives us superb weather for the cocktail hour gathering on the patio, and then inside to the very nice Lincoln Room for our meal and meeting. The Kellogg Center staff treats us very well, and it’s so much fun to renew old friendships and enjoy a fine meal, before conducting a little necessary club business. We try to make the business portion as pain-free and short as possible! The meeting will conclude with an interesting presentation by this year’s speaker, Prosecutor Stuart J. Dunnings III. Make your reservation using the form in this newsletter. Enjoy the rest of this gorgeous Michigan summer. |
